Dialed In

I recently finished Dialed In: Do Your Best When It Matters Most by Dr. Dana Sinclair, numerous times I found myself thinking, I wish I had this book in my late teens or early 20s.
One idea that truly shifted how I think about performance: confidence is overrated.
That concept felt almost revolutionary to me. What resonated even more was the emphasis on staying calm. Looking back, the moments when I’ve performed at my best — in sport, in work, and in life — weren’t driven by hype or intensity, but by calm focus and clear action.
This book helped me connect the dots on where I’ve wasted energy in the past: overthinking outcomes, chasing confidence, or getting emotionally attached to results. The reminder is simple but powerful — don’t focus on how you feel; focus on what you need to do. Let the process lead, and the results will follow.
I found this book so valuable that initially every co-worker I talked to, I found a way to mention this book. I’ve gifted it to a few of those closest to me. It’s a great read for anyone who wants to perform with more clarity, composure, and intention.
Also fun fact, Dr. Dana was the team psychologist when my dad coached the Toronto Maple Leafs. I once was able to meet her for coffee and she forever changed how I viewed motivation.
Highly recommend.
